Deck Building Day 3

Well things are really coming along now!

Only had a half day to work on the deck today since I had an appointment downtown, but made good progress none the less. First of all I finished of the corner arc of our deck, check out how well it all fits together!

I had to cut the middle joint by hand since it was around a 60 degree angle and my saw only went up to 45, but I actually cut something straight for once. I got really annoyed though, I had it lined up perfectly, then when I put the screw in it pulled it to the side a bit, nothing enough to cause problems it just doesn't look as nice now.

Either way check it out I was quite impressed:

So with the corner out the way it's time to start hanging josts. Here's a pic of the hangers I'm using to put the joists up.

And after that it was pretty straighforwad doing the straight part of the deck and here's were it was by the end of the day:

After this far I actually layed out a few of the cedar deckboards and it's looking really good, I thought I took a picture but It wasn't on my blackberry.

The challenge tomorrow will be to figure out the best way to hang the joists on the two angles. I think the angles are shallow enough that I can just use the standard joist hangers and bend the ends a bit, as I'd rather not pick up 6 skewed joist hangers since they are $10 a piece as compared to 80 cents.

That is quite the project

That is quite the project there. I love it when people get down and dirty and do things themselves.
